Under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Al Salam Cycling Championship’s Desert Race unfolded in a grand display of skill and endurance at the Al Marmoom Conservation Reserve. Renowned as the world’s most diverse and high-stakes community cycling race, the event saw elite cyclists take on grueling desert terrains in an electrifying battle for supremacy.

Challenging Routes Amidst Stunning Landscapes

This prestigious event featured two distinctive routes: the 52-km Sarouq Al-Hadid and the 57-km Al Ashoosh, each designed to test the competitors’ stamina and tactical prowess. Adding an extra layer of intensity, a high-speed sprint challenge was introduced at the Areeqib Brashi segment, pushing cyclists to their absolute limits.

Top Performers Shine in a Fierce Competition

The cycling spectacle witnessed some exceptional performances, with Shabab Al Ahli Cycling Club asserting dominance in the 57-km Al Ashoosh category. Their star rider, Grega Bol, clinched the top spot, followed by Cornelis Vermeltfoort in second and Timo de Jong in third. The team rankings saw Shabab Al Ahli taking first place, with Airwerks Racing Team and GDRFA Dubai securing the second and third spots, respectively.

In the Sarouq Al-Hadid 52-km race, Essaid Abelouache from Sheikh Ahmed bin Humaid Al Nuaimi’s team emerged victorious, followed by Jaber Al Mansoori and Soulayman Minaoual. Team rankings for this segment saw Shabab Al Ahli Cycling Club clinching the top position, followed by Sheikh Ahmed bin Humaid Al Nuaimi’s team and Dubai Police Cycling Team.

Dubai Endurance City Point Sprint Challenge

The Dubai Endurance City Point Sprint Challenge added an exhilarating twist to the event. In the UAE Nationals (18-39 years) category, Ahmed Obaid Saif Al Marri claimed victory, with Jaber Al Mansoori and Abdulaziz Saeed following closely behind. Meanwhile, in the Residents (18-39 years) category, Cornelis Vermeltfoort secured the top podium spot.

For the UAE Nationals (40+ years), Abdullah Saeed Al Hattawi from Dubai Police Cycling Team triumphed, while in the Residents (40+ years) category, Ian Dialo Cabahug of Talabat Boys 30+ outpaced his competitors.

The championship is set to culminate in the much-anticipated Women’s Race on February 16, 2025, at the Al Marmoom Conservation Reserve. With elite female cyclists ready to showcase their prowess, the final stage promises yet another thrilling chapter in this landmark cycling championship.
