Empowering Dubai’s Art Scene with International Exposure
Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has launched a groundbreaking initiative, the International Art Fairs Grant, designed to provide financial backing to Dubai-based galleries seeking global exposure. As part of the Dubai Cultural Grant, this initiative aims to uplift Emirati and UAE-based artists, offering them a prestigious platform to showcase their work at renowned international art fairs.
This strategic move aligns with Dubai’s vision of becoming a global creative hub, reinforcing its commitment to the cultural and creative industries. By facilitating international opportunities for artists and galleries, Dubai Culture is paving the way for an enriched and diversified art landscape that extends beyond regional borders.
Strengthening Dubai’s Creative Economy
Managed by Art Dubai Group, the initiative reflects the government’s dedication to cultivating Dubai’s reputation as an epicenter of artistic excellence. With financial support covering up to 50% of exhibition booth costs, Dubai-based galleries can now secure international visibility while representing local and Emirati talent.
The grant applies to galleries that:
- Maintain a full-time presence in Dubai.
- Represent Emirati artists or those who have resided in the UAE for a minimum of three years.
- Regularly exhibit in Dubai through reputable institutions or art fairs.
By incentivizing participation in global art fairs, the grant not only expands Dubai’s presence on the international cultural stage but also fosters cross-border collaborations and new business opportunities within the creative economy.
A Step Forward for Dubai’s Thriving Art Community
Dr. Saeed Mubarak bin Kharbash, CEO of the Arts, Design, and Literature Sector at Dubai Culture, emphasized the significance of this initiative in amplifying Dubai’s influence in contemporary art. He stated, “Dubai’s position as a global art hub is driven by its vibrant art scene. This grant elevates our galleries and artists on an international scale while contributing to the global artistic dialogue, ensuring Dubai remains a leader in cultural innovation.”
Similarly, William Lawrie, co-founder of Lawrie Shabibi Gallery, praised the grant, noting its transformative impact on Dubai’s art ecosystem. “This initiative reaffirms Dubai’s commitment to local talent, enabling galleries like ours to expand internationally and enrich the city’s dynamic cultural landscape.”
