Dubai Expands Electric Vehicle Charging Network with Over 740 Green Charger Points

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has established a robust network of more than 740 EV Green Charger points across the emirate, supporting a steady rise in electric vehicle (EV) adoption, which surpassed 34,970 vehicles as of October 2024.

The EV Green Charger stations, strategically located across Dubai, can be easily found using DEWA’s website, smart app, and 14 other digital platforms, providing seamless accessibility for EV owners.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, emphasized the initiative’s alignment with Dubai’s vision to become the smartest and happiest city globally. “Launched in 2014, the EV Green Charger initiative provides pioneering infrastructure for EV charging, catering to the growing number of electric vehicles in Dubai. The UAE aims for 50 percent of its cars to be electric by 2050. Recently, we introduced a Regulatory and Licensing Framework for EV infrastructure development and operation, marking a significant milestone towards green mobility and achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050,” he said.

In line with this vision, DEWA issued the first two Independent Charge Point Operator (CPO) licenses to Tesla and UAEV. This initiative aims to boost private sector involvement in sustainability efforts, reduce emissions in transportation, and encourage investment in green mobility infrastructure.

The EV Green Charger network offers a variety of charging options, including ultra-fast, fast, public, and wall-box chargers. Since the initiative’s launch in 2014, a total of 16,828 customers have benefited, with DEWA supplying approximately 31,674 megawatt-hours of electricity to EVs by the end of September 2024.

Dubai’s commitment to green mobility is set to propel the emirate further as a global leader in sustainable urban development, paving the way for a cleaner and smarter future.
