In a remarkable achievement, Dubai has once again solidified its global standing by ranking first in the Middle East and eighth globally in the 2024 Global Power City Index (GPCI). This is the second consecutive year the emirate has achieved this milestone, further cementing its reputation as a global hub for innovation, economic dynamism, and cultural vibrancy.

The GPCI, published by Japan’s Mori Memorial Foundation’s Institute for Urban Strategies, evaluates cities based on their ability to attract people, capital, and businesses. Dubai’s ranking showcases its unmatched “magnetism” and holistic growth across various dimensions.

A Visionary Path to Success

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, highlighted the city’s achievement as a testament to the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai.

In a tweet, Sheikh Hamdan remarked, “Dubai’s high ranking reflects its commitment to setting new global benchmarks. It is a city where ambition, resilience, and innovation come together to inspire the world.”

He further emphasized Dubai’s world-class infrastructure, progressive legislative frameworks, and strategic partnerships between the public and private sectors as key drivers of its success. These elements have created a dynamic environment that attracts top talent and global investments while fostering collaboration and innovation.

Why Dubai Stands Out

The GPCI ranks cities based on six critical functions—Economy, Research and Development, Cultural Interaction, Livability, Environment, and Accessibility. Dubai has excelled across these dimensions, with particular strengths in:

  1. Economic Growth: Dubai’s robust and diversified economy continues to be a magnet for global investors and enterprises.
  2. Cultural Interaction: The city’s cosmopolitan nature and world-class events ensure cultural vibrancy and global engagement.
  3. Accessibility: Dubai’s seamless connectivity through its world-renowned airport and logistics network places it among the most connected cities globally.
  4. Innovation and Sustainability: With a focus on future-ready technologies and sustainable growth, Dubai is redefining urban living and innovation.

Dubai remains the only city in the Middle East to secure a position in the GPCI’s top 10, reflecting its unique blend of ambition, resilience, and forward-thinking policies.

Commitment to a Dynamic Future

As a rapidly growing metropolis, Dubai is not just keeping pace with global cities but actively setting new benchmarks for excellence. With a strong focus on quality of life and economic opportunities, Dubai continues to attract businesses, individuals, and ideas that contribute to its global stature.

Sheikh Hamdan reaffirmed Dubai’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and excellence, saying, “We are steadfast in our efforts to consolidate Dubai’s status as a city of the future. By maintaining this focus, we are creating opportunities across industries while ensuring sustainable and inclusive growth.”

What is the GPCI?

The Global Power City Index (GPCI) is a comprehensive study that evaluates and ranks cities based on their ability to attract people, capital, and enterprises. It measures six key functions: Economy, Research and Development, Cultural Interaction, Livability, Environment, and Accessibility. Beyond rankings, the GPCI provides insights into the strengths, weaknesses, and challenges of cities, enabling them to enhance their competitiveness in a fast-changing world.
