Dubai’s private school sector is experiencing remarkable growth, with a 6% increase in student enrolment for the 2024-25 academic year. According to the latest data from the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), private schools in Dubai now educate a total of 387,441 students from 185 nationalities across 227 institutions. This impressive expansion underscores Dubai’s position as a global hub for high-quality education.
A Decade of Ambition: Education Strategy E33
Driving this growth is Dubai’s visionary Education Strategy E33, which aims to establish at least 100 new private schools by 2033. The opening of 10 new schools this year reflects steady progress toward this goal, offering families even more diverse education options.
Her Excellency Aisha Miran, Director General of KHDA, stated:
“Dubai continues to be an attractive destination for families seeking world-class education and for educators dedicated to shaping future generations. The growth in student enrolment, including Emirati students, alongside the expansion of new schools, reflects the strength of the city’s education ecosystem.”
The E33 Strategy focuses on inclusivity, innovation, and fostering student well-being, ensuring that every learner, regardless of background, has access to top-tier education and the tools needed to thrive in an interconnected world. This approach aligns seamlessly with broader initiatives like the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the Dubai Social Agenda 33.
Diverse Curricula for a Diverse Population
Dubai’s private schools offer 17 curricula, catering to the emirate’s multicultural community. The UK curriculum remains the most popular, chosen by 37% of students, followed by the Indian curriculum (26%), US curriculum (14%), International Baccalaureate (7%), and UK/IB hybrid curriculum (4%).
Among Emirati students, who make up 33,210 of the total enrolment, the US curriculum leads in popularity, followed by UK and IB options. This emphasis on providing world-class education for Emiratis aligns with the E33 Strategy’s goal of nurturing lifelong learners and future leaders.
Attracting Global Talent
Dubai’s reputation as a leading education hub is further solidified by its ability to attract top teaching talent. This year, the number of educators employed in private schools reached 27,284—a 9% increase from the previous year. These teachers contribute to a dynamic and innovative learning environment, making Dubai an attractive destination for educators seeking professional growth.
A Bright Future for Education in Dubai
With its strategic initiatives, diverse education offerings, and commitment to quality, Dubai is poised to remain a global leader in education. As the emirate continues to grow, its private schools are well-equipped to meet the demands of a rapidly expanding and diverse population, ensuring that students from all walks of life receive the education they need to succeed.
