Hatta Poised to Become a Global Model of Sustainable Development

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, recently reviewed the progress of the AED 3.6 billion Hatta development projects. During his visit, he emphasized Dubai’s commitment to improving infrastructure and services to maintain its position as a world-class city. Sheikh Mohammed also underscored the critical role of youth in fostering sustainable development and innovation.

Accelerating Development in Hatta

The comprehensive Hatta Master Development Plan aims to elevate the quality of life for residents and enhance the region’s social and economic growth. Of the 65 planned initiatives, 41 have been successfully completed, covering various sectors including infrastructure, tourism, and community development. Senior officials, including His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer and His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, briefed Sheikh Mohammed on the progress and strategic significance of these initiatives.

Hatta Winter Festival: A Hub of Cultural and Recreational Activities

His Highness also visited the Hatta Winter Festival, part of the larger Hatta Winter 2024 initiative. This event, featuring cultural, entertainment, and sports activities, highlights Hatta’s growing reputation as a must-visit winter destination. Brand Dubai’s efforts in supporting tourism and commerce through initiatives like Hatta Winter were highly commended by Sheikh Mohammed.

Unveiling the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls

A major highlight of the visit was the unveiling of the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls, a project by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). This breathtaking attraction features a cascading waterfall descending from the Hatta Dam, accompanied by the world’s largest mosaic panel. Recognized by Guinness World Records, the mosaic spans 2,200 square meters and is crafted from 1.2 million natural marble pieces, paying homage to the UAE’s founding fathers. The project aims to boost tourism while offering retail and dining opportunities exclusively for Emirati entrepreneurs.

Empowering Youth Through Innovation

Sheikh Mohammed’s visit also included interactions with young innovators like Khalifa and Ahmed Al Bedwawi, founders of GoGravity, a company manufacturing electric bikes tailored for rugged terrains. Their ‘Made in the UAE’ initiative has expanded internationally, showcasing Emirati ingenuity. Additionally, the Al Bedwawi Honey project, focused on beekeeping and honey production, was presented as a shining example of local entrepreneurship.

Transforming Hatta Into a Tourism Powerhouse

The private sector is playing a pivotal role in shaping Hatta’s future. Projects such as the Hatta Beach, featuring an artificial ‘Crystal Lagoon’ and an outdoor cinema, aim to position the area as a year-round tourist destination. Other key developments include luxury hotels, the Dubai Mountain Peak cable car, and a hydroelectric power station—the first of its kind in the GCC region. These initiatives not only enhance tourism but also create economic opportunities for the local community.

Future-Focused Community Enhancements

The development portfolio also includes projects designed to enrich community life, such as the Hatta Majlis, a state-of-the-art model school, and improved healthcare facilities. Recreational enhancements include expanded cycling trails, a wedding hall for 1,000 guests, and the Hatta Dam Amphitheatre. Together, these projects reflect a balanced approach to preserving Hatta’s natural beauty while promoting sustainable growth.

Sheikh Mohammed’s visit reaffirmed the UAE’s dedication to leveraging innovation and sustainability to create a harmonious balance between development and nature, transforming Hatta into a global benchmark for progress.
