As Dubai gears up to welcome 2025 with dazzling fireworks and light shows, authorities have announced an extensive plan for traffic management and public safety. Key roads in Downtown Dubai will close on December 31 to ensure smooth operations during one of the city’s busiest nights. This guide outlines the road closures, public transport arrangements, and safety measures for New Year’s Eve celebrations in Dubai.
Road Closures in Downtown Dubai
To manage the expected influx of visitors to iconic locations like the Burj Khalifa, several major roads will be closed starting as early as 4 PM on December 31. Key closures include:
- 4 PM: Al Asayel Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, Burj Khalifa Street, and parts of Lower Financial Centre Street and Mustaqbal Street.
- 8 PM: Sukuk Street.
- 9 PM: Upper Financial Centre Street.
- 11 PM: Gradual closure of Sheikh Zayed Road between Al Meydan Street and the Trade Centre Roundabout.
These measures aim to prevent traffic bottlenecks and ensure a hassle-free experience for visitors.
Public Transport on Overdrive
With road access restricted, Dubai’s public transport system is stepping up to accommodate the high demand.
- Metro: The Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station will close from 5 PM or earlier if capacity limits are exceeded. Alternative stations like Business Bay will handle the extra load. Metro services on the Red and Green lines will operate continuously for 43 hours, starting from 5 AM on December 31.
- Dubai Tram: Operations will run uninterrupted from 6 AM on December 31 to 1 AM on January 1.
- Taxis and Buses: Nearly 30,000 taxis and limousines will be on the road. Over 1,100 buses will ferry visitors to and from event areas, with 20,000 parking spaces designated for their convenience.
Safety Measures to Ensure Public Well-Being
The city has mobilized over 10,000 emergency service personnel, including police officers, firefighters, and first responders.
- Police Patrols: 1,145 police patrols, including officers on bicycles, motorcycles, and rescue boats, will ensure safety.
- Fire and Rescue: Nearly 1,100 firefighters will be stationed at 36 key locations, with rigorous inspections conducted to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Medical Assistance: The Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services has set up 224 ambulance points, along with 52 resupply stations. Ambulance boats and trained volunteers will also be on standby.
Tips for Visitors
Authorities urge residents and tourists to cooperate by planning ahead and adhering to traffic restrictions. Arriving at venues early and using public transport are highly recommended. Reports of unusual activities can be made via the Dubai Police hotline or app.
Maj Gen Khalil Al Mansouri, Dubai Police’s assistant commander-in-chief for criminal investigations, emphasized the importance of public vigilance. “Everyone’s cooperation will ensure a safe and enjoyable New Year’s Eve for all,” he stated.
A Night to Remember
With world-class fireworks and drone displays lighting up locations like JBR, Global Village, and Atlantis, The Palm, Dubai is set to create unforgettable memories like always. The meticulous planning by city authorities ensures that these celebrations will be safe, smooth, and spectacular.
