In an inspiring collaboration, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) and UNICEF have reinforced their partnership to combat global child malnutrition and improve the lives of underprivileged communities. During a meeting at the World Economic Forum in Davos (January 20–24, 2025), Mohammad Al Gergawi, Secretary-General of MBRGI, and Catherine Russell, Executive Director of UNICEF, reviewed the impact of a landmark AED30 million (US$8.1 million) contribution from MBRGI to UNICEF’s Child Nutrition Fund (CNF).

This strategic pledge, made a year ago, underpins sustainable solutions to address child malnutrition globally. By 2027, the funding is set to provide therapeutic meals and essential food supplements to over 371,000 children and women across Mongolia, Tanzania, Madagascar, and Sri Lanka. This initiative aligns with MBRGI’s core mission of combating hunger and malnutrition while extending a lifeline to the world’s most vulnerable populations.

Empowering Lives Through MBRGI

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) stands as a testament to the UAE’s commitment to humanitarianism and global development. Founded on the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the organization focuses on five pillars: Humanitarian Aid & Relief, Healthcare & Disease Control, Spreading Education & Knowledge, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, and Empowering Communities. In 2023 alone, MBRGI spent AED1.8 billion, positively impacting the lives of over 111 million individuals across 105 countries. Its initiatives demonstrate a steadfast dedication to creating a better and more inclusive world.

UNICEF’s Global Impact

UNICEF, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, is a global leader in advocating for children’s rights and well-being. Established in 1946, the organization works in over 190 countries, ensuring access to healthcare, nutrition, education, and protection for children. Through initiatives like the Child Nutrition Fund, UNICEF is addressing the urgent challenge of malnutrition, which affects millions of children worldwide. Collaborations with partners like MBRGI enhance the organization’s ability to deliver sustainable, life-saving solutions to vulnerable populations.

A Vision for Sustainable Change

Commenting on the partnership, Al Gergawi emphasized the UAE’s commitment to ensuring dignity and support for vulnerable families and children. “This collaboration reflects the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and our mission to create sustainable, positive change,” he noted. Catherine Russell echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of global cooperation in addressing malnutrition amid the compounded challenges of economic crises, conflicts, and climate change.

Together, MBRGI and UNICEF are paving the way for sustainable solutions that address malnutrition and empower communities, ensuring a brighter and healthier future for generations to come.
