Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed significant traffic expansion works at the bustling intersection of Omar bin Al Khattab Street and Al Maktoum Street. Spanning 500 meters, the project introduces a range of enhancements aimed at easing congestion and streamlining traffic flow, reflecting Dubai’s commitment to a future of seamless and sustainable mobility.
Enhanced Traffic Capacity and New Lanes
Among the most notable upgrades are two new dedicated lanes:
- Clock Tower Roundabout to Al Khaleej Street: A new lane facilitates smoother traffic for vehicles heading from the Clock Tower Roundabout toward Al Khaleej Street.
- Al Khaleej Street to the Clock Tower: Another lane enhances connectivity for traffic moving from Al Khaleej Street to the Clock Tower via Omar bin Al Khattab Street.
The storage capacity of the dedicated lane for vehicles transitioning from Al Khaleej Street to Omar bin Al Khattab Street and Naif Street has also been expanded. This upgrade ensures more vehicles can pass through efficiently, reducing wait times and boosting overall traffic flow.
Substantial Improvements in Traffic Efficiency
The improvements have significantly increased the intersection’s capacity by over 20%, marking a milestone in operational efficiency. Evening peak-hour delays have been slashed by 47%, with average wait times dropping from 160 seconds to just 75 seconds. This drastic reduction reflects the RTA’s focus on minimizing congestion and enhancing the commuting experience for motorists and residents.
